Black Friday / Cyber Monday, Online Shopping Tips

Keep Calm: It’s Only Black Friday!

We’ve all seen the YouTube videos: Employees at stores like Target or BestBuy getting mauled by crowds of eager shoppers; People trampling over each other in the pursuit of the newest gadget; Lines that circle the entire block filled with customers counting down the minutes until opening…

And we’ve all, collectively, thought the same thing: WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!

Of course we want to go out there to get the best deals, but being caught in a whirlwind of stone-faced, ruthless shoppers doesn’t sound like our forte. So, in the end, the crazy behavior wins, we stay at home and miss the year’s hottest deals.

Year after year, the calamity ensues, and this year will surely be no different. But instead of looking up all of the deals you’ll be missing out on, this time, you don’t have to be.

It’s madness out there, yes, but there’s still a way to avoid the madness and have a productive, stress-free Black Friday:

  1. Get enough sleep and eat breakfast

It’s no secret that feeling sleep-deprived and hungry can turn any wallflower into an easily-agitated attention seeker. They’re two of some of the most basic human needs, and that must be respected above our wants. Besides, feeling worked up and then joining a crowd of equally-worked up people won’t bode well, and you know it.

  1. Walk to the store

If you’re within a decent walking distance from the store you wish to shop at, skip the streets and get there by sidewalk. If you think it’s going to be madness in the stores, just know that it is a fraction of what you’re likely to find in traffic. Even the shortest distances can turn into bumper to bumper, with an endless stream of red brake lights up ahead.

  1. Look to see if the deal is available online

A lot of shopping is shifting to online, and even though there’s Cyber Monday for that, some stores will jump ahead of the curve and put their deals online earlier. This helps keep their stores from overcrowding too much, and helps you by not having to leave the comfort of your own home.

  1. Find out how long the deals are going on for

A lot of people think that Black Friday is the only day you can find these amazing prices, but that’s not always the case. More and more stores are getting into the habit of spreading their sales through the course of a weekend or even a week in an attempt to disperse the volumes of people. If the sales are going on longer than 24 hours, always skip the first day and the last day.

  1. Be patient

You’re going to be standing in a crowd of people. That’s not something you can get around if you want to take advantage of these deals before the holidays. You only have two ways you can think about it: you can get mad at it, or you can accept it. Either way, you’re not going to be able to change it, so why not go down the positive route? Allowing yourself to get stressed out by the noise and the confusion will only make everything feel worse.

  1. Be nice and respectful to store employees

If you think you’re having the worst experience of the day, think again. You can politely ignore and shuffle past the crowds of people, while the employees have to deal with them. They showed up, are missing other hot deals I’m sure they’d love to take part in, and are trying to make the experience run as smoothly as they can. They’re the true unsung heroes of this huge shopping event, and it would be nice to treat them as such.

  1. Don’t buy things you don’t need

When you’re presented with aisles and aisles of amazing deals, they’re hard to ignore. (That’s the point). But filling your home with things you never really thought about before they were 50% off is destining them to a life of permanent refuge in the back of your closet. Don’t spend money when you don’t have to, just to stress yourself out even further down the road. It’s not worth it.

We hope these tips help you have a successful Black Friday, but if you still don’t want to face the day, browse through PriceReel for all of the best products of the season from merchants like Walmart, Target, BestBuy and many more!
