Preparing For Valentine’s Day: Single’s Included

23 Jan , 2017

It’s time to say goodbye to the red and green-laden decorations in search for pinker and heartier pastures. Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and with it comes another opportunity to play up your storefront or website with another fun-loving holiday.

Like Christmas or Hanukah, and the other end-of-year holidays that just passed, Valentine’s Day is another big gift-giving holiday, and people are looking for something good to buy.

But often, when we plan for this romantic holiday, we tend to leave a very big group of the public left in the dust: single people.

And even though this holiday is all about the dreamy, rose-colored romance, there are ways to make your shop a little more inclusive.

4 different ways to include everyone in the shopping experience this Valentine’s Day:

  1. Promote practical gifts

Practical items make for great presents and will last way longer than a bouquet of flowers or a box of chocolates. Couples would much prefer to buy something that they can see their lover use time and time again than use once and throw in the garbage. In addition, when you push for the practical, you reach an audience that is inclined to buy something for themselves if they need it. It really is a win, win.

  1. Don’t forget about platonic love

Valentine’s Day can be much more than a holiday about celebrating romantic love, and instead can be about celebrating all types of love. People are constantly looking for ways to let the people around them know that they care about them, and Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity. Provide a catalogue of simple, but thoughtful products that pay it forward, even if you’re single.

  1. Stick to neutral colors

Pink and red are all great and awesome in moderation, but an overload of them can leave single shoppers feeling a little left out. There’s no shame in going with the theme of the holiday and basking in it, but if you’re single and aren’t shopping for someone romantically, your mechanize just becomes sort of invisible.

  1. Have only have a section for Valentine’s Day

Instead of plastering your whole store or website with a Valentine’s Day theme, try to keep it to a corner or single page. This way regular shoppers can still feel at home while they browse, and holiday shoppers can make their way to the dedicated section of the store. This is doubly great because, instead of searching far and wide for a specific thing for Valentine’s Day, shoppers will know exactly to find what they’re looking for.

Valentine’s Day is fun, and it’s all right for it to be treated as such. String those streamers, color those lanes and indulge in the spirit of things… just don’t forget about those who don’t celebrate!
