40w iron?

    I'm completely unable to heat solder through the wire to tin the wire. If the iron isn't touching the solder directly, it wont melt. It's a 40w iron if that helps. What could I be doing wrong?

    I'm not exactly sure if I understood what you are trying to do. I might be able to help if you can explain a little more in detail.

    Also, are you making sure that the iron is hot enough? It could take some time for some irons.

    Try using a soldering paste instead of a soldering wire if you're struggling to solder with a wire. I personally prefer soldering paste since it's a lot easier to have control over the solder that way.
